Founded by Stuart J. Kaufman, M.D. in 1981, the Kaufman Eye Institute is one of Florida's leading ophthalmology centers.  Dr. Kaufman's research in the field of eye related disorders, such as glaucoma, cataracts and retinal diseases, has brought critical acclaim from the medical community.  His studies have been published in both America and Europe.  Dr. Kaufman is a magna cum laude graduate of Brooklyn College of the City University of New York.  Dr. Kaufman graduated from New York Medical College in Manhattan.  He interned in ophthalmology at Doheny Eye Institute and Los Angeles County/University of Southern California Medical Center (the largest medical center in the United States).

Dr. Kaufman completed his ophthalmology residency at the world famous University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago.  He is Board Certified and a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.  He was on the medical teaching staffs at the above universities and was a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of South Florida from 1982 to 2008.  Dr. Kaufman is a former Chief of Surgery at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills.

Dr. Kaufman was a developer of Insta-Sight Cataract Surgery and holds the trademark. Insta-Sight Cataract Surgery is an advanced No-Stitch, No Needle, No Patch cataract procedure that virtually gives the patient "instant" visual recovery.  Dr. Kaufman has been performing Insta-Sight cataract surgery since 1992 and cataract surgery since 1978.  As an eye doctor, Dr. Kaufman specializes in having patient's become less dependent on glasses by using special surgical techniques such as custom focus or lifestyle lens implants such as Crystalens, ReSTOR and Trulign Toric.  He performed the first multifocal intraocular lens implant surgery, the first no-stitch, first Crystalens®, and first Trulign Toric cataract lens implant surgeries in Hillsborough and Pasco counties.  Dr. Kaufman discovered an eye disease, autosomal dominant vitreoretinal choroidopathy, in which all patients have a retinal degeneration and cataracts.

The Kaufman Eye Institute has won the Best of South Shore for Eye Surgery for the last 2 years in a row and has a 98.8% patient satisfaction rating.

 

Jonathan Kaufman, M.D.

Jonathan Kaufman MDDr. Jonathan Kaufman M.D. is a board certified Cornell fellowship trained Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive surgeon.  He specializes in the evaluation and treatment of dry eye, blepharitis, keratoconus, corneal dystrophies, and pterygium.  As an ophthalmologist, Dr. Kaufman is an expert in LASIK, PRK, cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, and pterygium removal surgeries.

Dr. Kaufman is a Floridian who grew up in Tampa.  He is a graduate of Berkeley Preparatory School, and subsequently graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor with University Honors and a bachelor’s degree in cellular and molecular biology.  His medical training was in Chicago at Rush Medical College.  Dr. Kaufman underwent a one year transitional internship at Saint Francis in Chicago, IL.

Dr. Kaufman completed his ophthalmology residency at Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX.  During his last year of residency he was elected Chief Resident.  Dr. Kaufman then completed a one year Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive Surgery Fellowship in Manhattan at Weill Cornell Medical Center.  He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of both the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the Cornea Society.

 

Joseph Faust M.D.

Dr. Joseph Faust is an ophthalmologist who has been board certified for the past 39 years by the American Academy of Ophthalmology.  Dr. Faust graduated college Cum Laude from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.  He obtained his Doctorate in Medicine at Indiana University in Indianapolis.  Dr. Faust subsequently completed his ophthalmology residency at Indiana University.

Dr. Faust has a passion for teaching and is a past Adjunct Clinical Professor at Indiana University.  He was the founder of Faust Eye Center and has performed over 20,000 cataract surgeries.  Dr. Faust is also a former LASIK surgeon at LASIK Plus having performed over 15,000 LASIK surgeries.  He has extensive glaucoma, cataract, and medical retina experience.  Kaufman Eye Institute is very fortunate to have such an experienced ophthalmologist on staff.

 

Walter Moscoso, M.D.

Dr. Walter Moscoso, M.D. is a board certified, fellowship trained vitreoretinal surgeon with over 20 years of medical and surgical retina experience.  He is a leader in diagnosing and treating patients with macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.

Dr. Moscoso graduated with Honors from Seton Hall University.  He went on to complete his medical degree at Rutgers University in New Jersey.  This was followed by his residency at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York.  He then completed a surgical fellowship in vitreous and retinal diseases at the prestigious Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York.

Dr. Moscoso is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.  He is also a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Moscoso has contributed to several research studies.  He is well published in multiple ophthalmic journals and is a frequent presenter at retinal meetings.  He has also created educational programs for local physicians, hospitals, and medical organizations.  Dr. Moscoso is fluent in Spanish.   Habla español.  

 

Carol Marquis, O.D.

Dr. Carol Marquis is a board-certified primary care optometrist who specializes in scleral and hard to fit contact lens.  She has extensive experience treating dry eyes and diagnosing cataracts and glaucoma.  Dr. Marquis also performs diabetic eye exams.  She has been serving the Tampa Bay area for 25 years.

Dr. Marquis graduated from SUNY Binghampton with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry.  She subsequently went to optometry school at SUNY College of Optometry in New York.

In addition to her passion for optometry, Dr. Marquis enjoys playing tennis and running.  She is happily married with children and has two cats. 

Dr. Carol Marquis is a member of both the American Optometric Society and the Florida Optometric Society.  She is board certified by the American Board of Optometry.

Craig Munger, M.D. Ph.D.

Dr. Craig Munger M.D. Ph.D is a board certified dual fellowship trained Oculoplastic surgeon and Neuro Ophthalmologist.  With over 25 years of experience in the Tampa Bay area, he is one of the Tampa’s most well known and trusted oculoplastic specialist.

Dr. Munger graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio State University.  He subsequently completed his Master of Science degree in Toxicology from Texas A&M University in College Station, TX.  He also has a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology from Medical College of Virginia.  Dr. Munger received his doctorate in Medicine from the Medical College of Ohio.

Dr. Craig Munger completed both his internship in Internal Medicine and his residency in Ophthalmology at the Medical College of Virginia.  Dr. Munger was accepted to and completed a prestigious Oculoplastic and Neuro-Ophthalmic fellowship at Kresge Eye Institute at Wayne State in Detroit, Michigan.

 

Dr. Munger specializes in eyelid surgery blepharoplasty, ectropion and entropion repair, ptosis surgery, cosmetic eyelid surgeries, botox, fillers, and post Mohs eyelid reconstruction.  Dr. Munger is also a fellowship trained neuro ophthalmologist.

Dr. Craig Munger MD, PhD is board certified with the American Board of Ophthalmology.  He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.  Dr. Munger has published multiple journal articles and is a frequent speaker at medical events.  Dr. Munger was voted one of the top Cosmetic Surgeons in the 2021 Tampa Bay Times Best of the Best Reader's Choice Awards.
