Founded by Stuart J. Kaufman, M.D. in 1981, the Kaufman Eye Institute is one of Florida's leading ophthalmology centers. Dr. Kaufman's research in the field of eye related disorders, such as glaucoma, cataracts and retinal diseases, has brought critical acclaim from the medical community. His studies have been published in both America and Europe. Dr. Kaufman is a magna cum laude graduate of Brooklyn College of the City University of New York. Dr. Kaufman graduated from New York Medical College in Manhattan. He interned in ophthalmology at Doheny Eye Institute and Los Angeles County/University of Southern California Medical Center (the largest medical center in the United States).
Dr. Kaufman completed his ophthalmology residency at the world famous University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago. He is Board Certified and a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He was on the medical teaching staffs at the above universities and was a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of South Florida from 1982 to 2008. Dr. Kaufman is a former Chief of Surgery at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills.
Dr. Kaufman was a developer of Insta-Sight™ Cataract Surgery and holds the trademark. Insta-Sight™ Cataract Surgery is an advanced No-Stitch, No Needle, No Patch cataract procedure that virtually gives the patient"instant" visual recovery. Dr. Kaufman has been performing Insta-Sight cataract surgery since 1992 and cataract surgery since 1978. As an eye doctor, Dr. Kaufman specializes in having patient's become less dependent on glasses by using special surgical techniques such as custom focus or lifestyle lens implants such as Crystalens®, ReSTOR® and Trulign™Toric. He performed the first multifocal intraocular lens implant surgery, the first no-stitch, first Crystalens®, and first Trulign™ Toric cataract lens implant surgeries in Hillsborough and Pasco counties. Dr. Kaufman discovered an eye disease, autosomal dominant vitreoretinal choroidopathy, in which all patients have a retinal degeneration and cataracts.
The Kaufman Eye Institute has won the Best of South Shore for Eye Surgery for the last 2 years in a row and has a 98.8% patient satisfaction rating.
Dr. Selina J. Lin is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a fellowship trained specialist in the diseases and surgery of the vitreous, retina and macula. She evaluates and treats diseases such as Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular Holes, Macular Pucker and Retinal Detachment. Treatment methods for Macular Degeneration include Lucentis™, Avastin™ , and Eyla™.
Dr. Lin was raised in Jacksonville, Florida and received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Emory University in Atlanta, GA. She returned to Florida to attend medical school at the University of Miami School of Medicine and interned at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach. Her residency in ophthalmology was accomplished at Saint Vincent's Medical Center in New York City where she served one year as Chief Resident. Dr. Lin returned to her hometown to complete a two year medical and surgical vitreo-retinal fellowship at the University of Florida/Shands Jacksonville.
Dr. Lin joined the Kaufman Eye Institute after gaining two years of experience while working at Metrohealth Hospital as the Assistant Director of Vitreoretinal and Eye Trauma and as a Senior Clinical Instructor of Case Western Reserve University, teaching the ophthalmology residents from both Case Western University Center and the Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Jonathan Kaufman is a Cornell fellowship trained cornea, cataract, and refractive surgeon. He specializes in the evaluation and treatment of dry eye, blepharitis, keratoconus, corneal dystrophies, and pterygium. As an eye doctor, Dr. Kaufman is an expert in LASIK, PRK, cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, pterygium removal, and DSAEK (endothelial transplant) surgeries.
Dr. Kaufman is a Floridian who grew up in Tampa. He is a graduate of Berkeley Preparatory School, and subsequently graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor with University Honors and a bachelor’s degree in cellular and molecular biology. His medical training was in Chicago at Rush Medical College. Dr. Kaufman underwent a one year transitional internship at Saint Francis in Chicago, IL.
Dr. Kaufman completed his ophthalmology residency at Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX. During his last year of residency he was elected Chief Resident. Dr. Kaufman then completed a one year cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery fellowship in Manhattan at Weill Cornell Medical Center. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
Dr. Timothy Parker is a Florida Board Certified Optometrist and a native of the West Central Florida area. Dr. Parker received his baccalaureate of science degree from the University of South Florida where he studied biology with an emphasis on biotechnology. After graduation, he spent several years working with both the University of South Florida and the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in a collaborative effort studying Alzheimer's disease and its potential genetic influences.
In 1999, Dr. Parker decided to pursue a career in clinical eye care earning a degree at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, where he was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society. He received his Doctorate in 2003, graduating with honors. Dr. Parker practiced in both group and individual optometric practices in the Central Kentucky area before returning home to Florida in 2007. He joined the Kaufman Eye Institute in September of 2010, and now resides in Zephyrhills with his wife and two daughters.
Dr. Parker's expertise is comprehensive primary eye care which includes routine vision examinations for adults and children, dry eye management, diabetic ocular disease management, and evaluation of macular degeneration. He performs both pre and post operative care of cataract and refractive surgery patients. Dr. Parker has extensive training in utilization of contact lenses for management of refractive conditions and ocular diseases. Dr. Parker also has a special interest in low vision evaluation and training patients in the use of vision enhancing devices.
James C. Sanderson, M.D. is a board certified Ophthalmologist and Fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Dr. Sanderson received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering as a mechanical engineer from Duke University. He received his medical doctorate from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. Following his internship at St. Joseph’s hospital in Houston, he completed his ophthalmology residency at MetroHealth St. Luke’s Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. He received his specialty training in Oculofacial Surgery while serving a fellowship with Dr. Orkan Stasior in Albany, New York. Dr. Sanderson is privileged to be one of the only 600 members in the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Dr. Sanderson’s Facial Plastic Surgery is a “boutique” style practice which allows him to give additional personal attention for his patients. His primary concern is making the patient feel comfortable and well-informed during every step of the process. Patients have commented that they appreciate this approach. This also includes lots of one-on-one time with Dr. Sanderson and his caring staff during the postoperative healing process.
